This is fascinating, and I’m sure there’s a “logical” explanation.
The nose of the plane rises 90 degrees, then travels 180 degrees before flattening. From where it first appeared in the sky, there was no exhaust trail to follow.

Keep an eye on the right side of the ship as it climbs in one piece.
YouTube user “Kerry forides” captured this incredible footage in May 2018:
“I landed in Athens today, March 21, 2018, at 4.30 p.m., after flying across Turkey somewhere between Izmir and the Agean Sea of Khios.” I was on high alert and ready after my wife called 15 minutes earlier to report she had sighted a missile.
“It appears to be flying away at a right angle from our commercial plane, and despite neither of us turning, we find ourselves following it.
Why was there black smoke so near to our plane, and why couldn’t I see a jet stream source or any sort of plane? Please support KLK by like, sharing, and subscribing. Regards Kerry”
